Your first comment on the launch page
Posted as you when the launch goes live. Start a conversation, don't repeat the description.
Hey everyone, I'm [name], I built [Product]. The short version: [one line on who it's for and what it does]. I'd love your take on one thing in particular: [a specific question, e.g. is it clear what to do on the first screen?] For this community: [a launch offer, e.g. 30% off for 3 months with code LAUNCH]. I'm here all day answering questions.
Email to your list or early users
The people who already know you. Keep it personal and short.
Subject: [Product] is live Hi [first name], [Product] is live today. You're one of the first people to hear about it, because [how they helped: joined the waitlist, gave feedback, tried the beta]. What it does: [one line]. What's new since you last saw it: [one or two things]. Try it here: [link] If you reply with one thing you'd change, I'll read it myself. [Your name]
Asking for feedback, not votes
For people who fit your audience. Never ask for upvotes: Hacker News penalizes it, and everywhere else it reads as spam.
Hey [name], I just launched [Product], a [one line on what it does]. You're exactly who I built it for, so I'd really value two minutes of your honest take: what's confusing, and what's missing? Here's the link: [link] No pressure at all, and thank you either way.
Show HN
Posting on Hacker News
Show HN post structure
Only once people can try it without signing up. Hacker News's moderators ask you to write the text yourself, without AI, so treat this as an outline, not text to paste.
Title: Show HN: [Product] โ [what it does, in plain words] Text, in this order: 1. What it is and who it's for, in one or two sentences. 2. Why you built it: the problem you kept hitting. 3. How it works: the interesting technical choices and trade-offs. 4. What's rough or missing, said upfront. 5. How to try it (the no-signup path), and what feedback helps you most.
The week after
A 7-day plan after launch day
- 0
Launch day
Post your launch, then answer every comment within the hour. Share it on X and LinkedIn and email your list.
- 1
Day 1
Reply to every piece of feedback, even the harsh ones. Write down the three things people found confusing.
- 2
Day 2
Fix the biggest one, often the first screen or onboarding. Post what you changed and thank the person who pointed it out.
- 3
Day 3
List your product on a handful of directories that fit your niche, not a hundred random ones. Browse directories by domain strength
- 4
Day 4
Share your launch numbers openly: visitors, signups, what surprised you. Honest numbers get more attention than hype.
- 5
Day 5
Email ten people who signed up, one by one. Ask what they were hoping it would do.
- 6
Day 6
If people can try it without signing up, post a Show HN. How to launch on Show HN
- 7
Day 7
Look at where your best users came from, not the most users, and put next week into that channel.
