What Open Graph Tags Do for Your Links
Every time someone shares your URL on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, or X, the platform fetches your page and looks for Open Graph meta tags to build the preview card — the image, title, and description that appear with the link. Without them, platforms guess: they grab a random image, truncate an arbitrary sentence, and your link looks broken or untrustworthy. Shared links with proper preview cards get dramatically more clicks than bare URLs.
The Open Graph protocol was created by Facebook but is now the de-facto standard across nearly every platform that unfurls links, with Twitter/X adding its own twitter:card tags on top. The required set is small — og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type — but getting the syntax, image dimensions, and Twitter variants right by hand is error-prone.
This generator writes the complete, ready-to-paste tag block for your page: all core OG tags plus the Twitter Card tags, correctly formatted. Add them to your page head once and every share of that URL, on every platform, renders a proper card.
How to Generate Open Graph Tags
Enter your URL and description
Provide the page URL and a one-line summary of what the page is about. Mention your page title if it differs from the site name.
Get the complete tag block
The tool outputs every required OG tag plus Twitter Card tags as valid HTML meta elements, ready to paste into your <head>.
Paste and validate
Add the block to your page head, then run the URL through a platform debugger (Facebook Sharing Debugger, LinkedIn Post Inspector) to confirm and refresh the cached preview.
Open Graph Best Practices
Use a 1200×630 image
This ratio (1.91:1) renders correctly everywhere. Keep critical text in the center — some platforms crop the edges on smaller cards.
Make og:title punchier than your SEO title
Social titles don't need keywords for ranking. Write for curiosity and emotion; you have the reader's feed, not a search query, to compete with.
Always set og:url to the canonical URL
This consolidates share counts and prevents the same content being treated as different pages when shared with tracking parameters.
Add twitter:card explicitly
Use "summary_large_image" for the full-width card on X. Without it, X may fall back to a small thumbnail or plain link.
Re-scrape after changes
Platforms cache OG data aggressively. After updating tags or images, force a refresh in each platform's debugger or old previews will persist for weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about open graph tags generator.
Open Graph (OG) tags are HTML meta tags that control how your content appears when shared on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. They define the title, description, image, and URL that appear in the social preview card.
While OG tags are not a direct SEO ranking factor, they dramatically improve social media engagement. Better social previews lead to more clicks and shares, which increases traffic and can indirectly boost your search rankings through increased brand signals.
Every page should have at minimum: og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, and og:type. For Twitter, you should also include twitter:card, twitter:title, and twitter:description. Our generator creates all of these for you.
The recommended Open Graph image size is 1200x630 pixels for optimal display across all platforms. Facebook recommends at least 600x315 pixels, but larger images look better on high-resolution displays.
You can test your OG tags using Facebook's Sharing Debugger, Twitter's Card Validator, or LinkedIn's Post Inspector. These tools show you exactly how your content will appear when shared on each platform.
